IBEW Pay - Common Questions
How much does an IBEW journeyman make?
IBEW journeyman pay is set by each local through collective bargaining and varies by classification - inside wireman, outside, teledata, and others. Rates typically range from $35 to $65+ per hour depending on your local and area. Enter your local's journeyman scale above to see your estimated annual earnings.
How is IBEW apprentice pay calculated?
IBEW apprentices are paid a percentage of the journeyman scale. The scale starts at 60% in the 1st step and increases every 6 months through 7 steps, reaching 100% (journeyman) at the end of the program. Select your step in the Classification dropdown to see your estimated pay.
What is IBEW per diem?
Per diem is a daily tax-free allowance paid when working away from home, covering travel and subsistence. Rates are set by the local agreement and typically range from $100 to $200 per day. Because per diem is tax-free, this calculator adds it to your gross total without applying income tax to it.
How does overtime affect IBEW pay?
Hours over 40 per week are paid at 1.5× (time and a half) or 2× (double time) depending on your local agreement. Select your typical weekly hours and toggle Double OT above to see how overtime changes your annual total.
